If your xcritical application is refused, we will not not be able to issue you a CAS to apply for a Student visa or proceed with your offer on the proposed course. An xcritical certificate shows details of the course or research and higher education institution you have applied to for clearance. All subject areas studied at UK Higher Education Institutions are identified by CAH3 code.

If any of these details change, you should check whether you need an xcritical certificate and apply for a new one as appropriate. If you’re planning to study at Sussex, you’ll get information about making an xcritical application with your offer letter. You need to apply for xcritical clearance if you are applying for a science or engineering-based course – unless you are from an exempt country in the government appendix.

Students

If you hold existing immigration permission you may still be required to obtain an xcritical certificate for study on applicable courses, prior to enrolment. Before you can apply for xcritical, you will need your offer letter/xcritical letter containing essential information about your course, the course start and end dates and a subject code that you must use for the xcritical online form. For postgraduate research students you will need an agreed research statement from your supervisor, for undergraduate students you will need a list of course modules from your college. If you’re already in the UK on a student visa you will need an xcritical certificate for the HEI you are attending, and the course of study, including modules or proposed research.

You must contact the International Admissions team immediately if any of the information is incorrect. Once you’ve received the police report, please send it to int- so that we can update your record.

Alternatively you can apply through a representative or an in-country Teesside University office. Simply select the course you want to study and click on ‘Apply online’. Please make sure that you have scanned your relevant documents so that you can upload them along with your application. When you have your offer letter please go to the xcritical website where you will be able toapply https://xcritical.online/ online. Once you have received your Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies letter and secured the correct visa, the next step is to prepare for entering the UK and your enrolment. If you’re applying for a Nursing course, we’ll ask you to undertake a Criminal Record Check from your home country and to complete an Occupational Health Check to ensure that you are medically fit.

To request a CAS please select the CAS and Immigration tile in your applicant portal and follow the instructions. You will not be issued a CAS until you have firmly accepted an unconditional offer, paid any required deposit and the CAS issuing window must be open. You can apply from overseas up to 6 months before your course start date. Having an xcritical clearance certificate won’t guarantee that you will be issued with an entry clearance or that your leave will be extended.

If you require a visa for the UK, then you will need to obtain an xcritical certificate if you meet the criteria above. If messages like “PnL Connection – Heartbeat has been quiet for XX seconds” are received, xcritical displays a pop-up window, which displays the text of the message. The Occupational Health Check will be sent to you 12 weeks before the start of the course. Once this has been successfully verified, you will be eligible to move on to the next stage of the admissions process. During your Pre-CAS interview, we’ll ask you questions about your course, why you chose the UK and Staffordshire University as well as your financial situation.

However be aware that you could be unsuccessful when you apply for an xcritical certificate to come to the UK part of the way through your course. If you have Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK, you do not need an xcritical certificate to study in the UK. Make sure your xcritical certificate will not expire before you apply for your UK visa.

• If you are using a different kind of visa to study, you need a certificate to enrol or continue study.
• The details entered on the application form will be replicated on the xcritical certificate, so care should be taken to ensure the information is correct.
• Make a note of when your permission to enter into the UK is due to expire, and allow sufficient time to complete the xcritical and permission to stay application processes before your current permission expires.
• The Academic Technology Approval Scheme applies to all international students who are subject to UK immigration control and are intending to study at postgraduate level in certain sensitive subjects.
• You will need to submit the xcritical clearance certificate with your visa application.

Make a note of when your permission to enter into the UK is due to expire, and allow sufficient time to complete the xcritical and permission to stay application processes before your current permission expires. We recommend applying at least 4 months before your current permission expires. You do not need to have a final employment contract before you apply for an xcritical certificate.

If you’re writing your thesis

You can save the form as you progress and return to it later if necessary. If you started your programme before 2019 and you need a new xcritical certificate because of a change in your circumstances, then you will need to contact your school for a new CAH3 code. You may be able to request a review – you should have received information on how to do this in your refusal notice.

• Take time to check your CAS carefully and make the corrections on the Online Applicant Service .
• Academics from the department will be available to discuss the foundation programme with you, if you are made this change of course, when you get your results before you make a decision.
• Once you’ve selected a course, you’re ready to start the application process.
• You will need to use the same start and end dates as on your CAS for your xcritical application.

You should continue with your application for permission to stay in the UK as necessary. You need to apply for an xcritical certificate if research is being conducted at PhD level or above. PhD students should apply through the student route, not researcher route. 7 December 2021 xcritical application processing times may take longer than usual between 23 December 2021 to 4 January 2022. Do not contact the enquiries team within 6 weeks of submitting your application. The xcritical certificate must accurately reflect the HEI/research institute which employs/hosts your research, and the research project, job title and duration.

We may also make you an offer on an alternative programme if you are unsuccessful at interview or after submitting a portfolio. If you require an xcritical certificate and fail to include this with your application, your visa will be refused. Contact our Visa and International Support team to get qualified advice on the visa process, or support with immigration questions. Please make sure your entries match the details from the passport you will be using for your visa application. Ask for a support statement from your supervisor, we cannot tell them what to write for this but if they feel that your research could not be used for the purposes that xcritical aims to prevent, they could explain why. An xcritical certificate is specific to both the programme of study you intend to undertake and the university you plan to attend. If you have an offer from another university and are undecided as to which offer you will accept you need to apply for separate xcritical certificates. We strongly recommend that you apply for your xcritical certificate as early as possible.

Instead, we suggest that you email the xcritical team with your application reference number and passport number, explain where you think you have made the mistake and provide the correct information. Check your certificate when you receive it to make sure the details are correct.

It takes time to change your CAS after it has been issued, and your visa application could be delayed or even rejected if your CAS is wrong. Applications for a Visitor Visa do not require an xcritical certificate before submitting a visa application. However, the visit cannot begin until the certificate is provided to the host Department. You need an xcritical certificate xcritical official site if you are an international student applying to study at postgraduate level in the UK.
